That's how Ken Cliffe used to say it at meetings, and we'd chuckle slightly.

Anyway, yup, back to makin' characters, yo. I'm doing Exalted: Lunars today because I won't have the book much longer. See, I sold off these Exalted books to someone in Australia a while back, but they got returned. The buyer just recently emailed me in response to the email I sent her (in which I asked, "um, hey, books returned, do you really exist?") and so I'll be sending them on again, but I figure I'll make a character first.

So, here we g-g-g-go!

The Game: Exalted: Lunars, 1st Edition
The publisher: White Wolf.
Degree of familiarity: Some. I ran Lunars a couple of times, and I always thought that of the "fatsplats," this was the one I liked the best. That was until Abyssals came around.
Books required: The Lunars book, and I think the core. I've got 'em both.

WHERE ARE MY PANTS!? )

And that's it for that. Next up, not sure. Might do Necessary Evil, as it'd be fun, or I might do Bushido, since I read it and I'd hate to think that was utterly wasted time.

No, not Weapons of the Gods. I'm saving that for after GenCon, when I'll get to play it. Today, we have Exalted.

Now, I'm making a Solar character, and I'm using the 1st ed book. I have the 2nd Ed on pdf from when it was a free download, but I haven't read it, and I understand that the system went through some overhaul that I'm not inclined to read right now. Incidentally, the only other "fatsplat" I still have is Lunars, and I'll do that one some other time (that one, I already have a concept for).

Exalted. I actually applied for the position of Exalted developer back in the day, before anyone knew anything except "before there was a World of Darkness." It's a really, really good thing I wasn't hired. Not because I suck, but because I have since learned how much changed from where the game was at that point to what it became, and a lot of that was Geoff Grabowski's direction. And at the time, I didn't have the life experience and certainly the confidence as a developer to make the game into its own thing, and I think it wouldn't have been nearly as cool. Never mind that I'm not an anime fan, so who knows what that would have done?

I've played Exalted a bunch of times, including two really long chronicles that gave me two of my favorite characters. I ran one-shots of Dragon-Blooded and Lunars, and I worked on exactly one Exalted sourcebook (Kingdom of Halta), which was probably my worst experience as a freelancer ever. I like the game. I think that it's gotten...well, a little bloated. It's suffering from a lot of the same problems as OWoD did before the bomb dropped, so maybe it's time for the ax to fall again? (Heck, Exalted 1st Ed was released in 2001...guess that's only 8 years, but still, OWoD went 13 before getting the reboot.)

But the bloat only matters if you follow the metaplot and you read RPG.Net, and I don't. (Well, I do read RPG.Net, but not the Exalted threads.) I like the game, and I'd ever play it again if someone ran it. And I can look past the anime influences (again, not a fan) and the political undertones (seriously, like anyone reads gaming sourcebooks and thinks, "Oh, yeah, just like the Gaza Strip!") and the rules wonkiness and dig the game about epic, flawed heroes.

Besides which, as I wrote in a recent essay that you won't see until the book goes into print, there is no shame in being awesome. (I have half a mind to make Rhino the Hamster as a Lunar now.)

The Game: Exalted, 1st Edition
The publisher: White Wolf.
Degree of familiarity: See above.
Books required: While I do have a few of the caste-books kicking around, I'm sticking with just the core.

Anima Flare! BLOOOM! )
And that's that. Next up: Maybe Slasher Flick?

So today I need ("need" is a strong word, but y'know) to blue book for my Exalted character and my AU character. Also, I shall include a brief summary of last night's Forsaken game, just to keep it straight in mine own head (and for the edification of anybody who gives a crap).

First, the AU stuff, because I know Pammit is waiting with baited breath.

Dog's Head Blues )

And now, hot Jale-on-River God action! )

And, finally, a quick run-down of last night's game.

Ah-ooo, werewolves of Philly. )

So [livejournal.com profile] hobbesthetiger started up his Exalted game a couple of weeks ago. I've been meaning to do a little blue bookin' about my character, but parental and writing comittments have prevented it.

But just at the moment, I find myself with a little bit of time. So, meet Jale.

Jale's a Twilight Solar Exalted, hailing originally from an island in the west called Milash (yes, I made it up). Milash is interesting in that during Ascending Water, it floods completely. All the buildings are constructed with tall supports, so during the flood season you get around with boats (the ground isn't visible again until Descending Water).

Anyway, that's pretty much moot, because the civilization's been pretty much wiped out. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Warning: The fiction ahead contains sex. It ain't porn, but if you don't wish to read that sort of thing, skip it. Read more... )

Coming next, Fusi and Isis, statted as Cat characters.
